The learner:
Positions and instructs the patient, with the learner taking the patient's possible limitations into account.
Connects the patient monitor correctly and according to protocol.
Independently prepares the intervention site under sterile conditions in accordance with the applicable protocols and guidelines, drapes the puncture site correctly and maintains sterility throughout the procedure.
Proactively ensures that radiation protection measures are worn and used in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations, and addresses healthcare professionals about this.
Operates the contrast injector safely and in a controlled manner throughout the procedure, continuously monitoring flow rate, volume and pressure limits. The learner responds alertly to signals from the injector.
Operates the X-ray equipment skilfully and in accordance with the safety regulations, optimally adjusting the settings to the clinical question and the patient.
Independently checks the acquired images for diagnostic quality. Where necessary, the learner accurately performs the required processing to optimise image quality.
Independently takes measurements of the relevant vessels (length/diameter) on subtraction or fluoroscopy images.
Assists the radiologist independently and purposefully in accordance with applicable protocols and working agreements.
Systematically flushes all lumens of the catheters, stopcock manifolds, guidewire hoops and introducer sets.
Visually inspects the materials during flushing for any damage or manufacturing defects and carries out the entire flushing procedure strictly within the sterile field.
Immediately labels each syringe or prepared fluid with a standardised medication label stating the name of the agent and its concentration. Draws up the medication under sterile conditions and free of air bubbles in accordance with the applicable hygiene guidelines, and ensures that the sterility of the fluid is maintained until the moment of administration.
Follows the procedure closely and hands over the required materials. Sharps are handed over safely, in a controlled manner and steadily, in accordance with the applicable guidelines. When handing over medication, contrast agents and materials, the learner states the name, dosage, size or diameter out loud as a check for the radiologist.
Listens to the radiologist's instructions, confirms requests and adjusts the pace of handing over to the progress of the intervention.
Keeps the sterile table organised at all times, returns used materials to their fixed, logical place and strictly separates clean materials from waste.
Maintains the sterility of all materials on the table and immediately flags (or corrects) when a team member is about to breach the sterile barrier unintentionally.
Independently anticipates the course of the procedure by proactively placing the required materials and medication on standby at an early stage.
Continuously monitors their own sterile field, the intervention table and the movements of all team members around the patient in order to detect contamination immediately. Does not hesitate for a second to call out "stop" as soon as a breach of sterility occurs and ensures that the contaminated material is immediately and safely replaced or covered.
Always moves correctly within the sterile zone and passes non-sterile objects or persons at a safe distance.
Under no circumstances touches non-sterile surfaces with the sterile gloves or gown.
Retrieves the required sterile materials from stock. In doing so, the learner verifies completeness, the integrity of the packaging and the expiry dates in accordance with the departmental protocol.
Opens sterile materials and fluids and hands them over, maintaining sterility.
When receiving materials, checks whether the circulating radiographer opens the packaging of the materials with due regard for sterility.
Removes the sheath or catheter in a controlled manner and immediately applies manual compression at the correct anatomical location with the correct, measured pressure. Maintains compression without interruption for the prescribed time and then carefully checks whether the bleeding has stopped completely.
Independently and skilfully applies an appropriate pressure dressing.
Communicates with the radiologist and the treatment team in a timely, clear and structured manner during the procedure.
Responds adequately to any complications during the procedure, such as bleeding or the patient becoming unwell.
Responds adequately to any contrast reaction in the patient.
